Core brake technology is the simplest and least expensive pallet wrapping option. The pallet is placed on the turntable, film is attached to the pallet and the turntable starts to revolve. As the turntable revolves the film is pulled by the weight of the pallet, from the head of the machine. There will be a brake on the head of the machine; this can be mechanical, electronic, pneumatic, or even hydraulic. The brake system will create resistance, enabling the film to be stretched around the loads. These systems are ideal for low volume users with solid stable pallets.

Today's core brake machines are also capable of operation with pre-stretched film.  This allows lighter and less stable products to be pallet wrapped whilst minimising film consumption.  The new pre-stretched films offer much higher load retention than conventional films and therefore require less tension to create the same load holding force.
